Rural Livelihood Systems was founded and registered in December
2001 by David and Elin Gibbon. The Company has been designed with
the following :-
• Over the next ten years, the company will contribute towards
the ethical development of more sustainable rural and urban livelihoods
for people living in South Shropshire, the UK in general and in
countries of Africa and Asia.
Goals:
• To improve the quality of life of poorer and disadvantaged
people through the development of more sustainable farming and livelihood
systems. |

• To provide training,
learning skills development, research, monitoring and evaluation services
which support and empower community workers, and enable them to act
both independently and collectively in order to improve their environment
and livelihoods. • To work towards a wider appreciation
of the crucial linkages between; food production, human health, quality
of life and well being, culture and environmental and natural resource
management. • To work as an independent consultant and also
with others as part of multidisciplinary and multiskilled teams to
apply the principles of systems thinking, interdisciplinarity and
participatory methods in many contexts. |

• Research reports, leaflets,
videos and conference presentations to a wide variety of stakeholders.
• Consultancy /Evaluation reports on projects and programmes
for a many local and international donors • Experiential
training and learning courses and workshops in participatory research
methods in the UK and in Africa and Asia. • Edited theses,
journal articles and books. • Chapters in books, journal
articles, leaflets, videos. • An improved understanding,
by a wide range of stakeholders and actors, of ways in which their
livelihoods may be improved through the harnessing of their own skills
and energies. |
• Participation in UK and European Union and international agricultural
and rural development research programmes.
• Facilitation of training courses in farming and livelihood
systems research and development which use of a diversity of participatory
methods ( PAR, PLAR and PRA).
• Participation in human capacity building among local communities
in the UK
• Monitoring, reviewing and evaluation of development projects
and programmes which target poor or disadvantaged people in Africa,
Asia, Latin America and Europe.
• Participation in scientific review panels and journal editorial
boards.
• The teaching of English for speakers whose first language
is not English.
• Editing of PhD Theses, Journal articles, book chapters and
conference papers.
• Sharing life, good humour and energy within all activities
in which we are engaged. |
